Chances Casino Review – Maple Ridge, BC

Summary

Chances Casino in Maple Ridge, BC is a nice small to mid sized casino conveniently on the main drag, the Lougheed Hwy. While this would not be a travel destination for the casino, it offers a nice, clean friendly casino for the local area with a few bonus features (bingo and horse racing). Find out what I thought of Chances Maple Ridge below. As always at the end I give it a CCG Score!

Game Selection & Diversity

Slots

Chances Maple Ridge is listed as having 200 machines and I would estimate this is generally correct. The machines range from newer, licensed gaming machines (with the big tall screens and branding like The Voice, Blake Shelton, Monopoly) to popular ones like Buffalo Gold and several asian-themed games, to also very simple, older-stype 1 cent machines. There’s a nice selection and range depending on your preferred limit and style.

The newest theme coming to all the casinos around BC in late 2019 is James Bond. Chances Maple Ridge had 4 James Bond themed slots when I was there in late November 2019.

Bingo

Chances Maple Ridge has approximately 100 bingo seats, each with electronic bingo available as well. The bingo area is a decent size. At the time of this article they offer bingo 5 days a week, with multiple sessions on the weekend days. I actually have played bingo here 3 times, and it is fun although the payouts are fairly tame. The highest I saw was a $50 payout, with the other 2 times being $40 and $30. Hard to justify paying $10 for the full card and extra games when the max payout on any one game is $30. Although for fun, its well worth it, just don’t expect to hit it big.

Blackjack (video)

Chances Maple Ridge only has 1 table game available, Video Blackjack, common in several casinos worldwide. Players are sit at one of 5 video terminals, all playing against the video dealer. The video dealer will prompt you with sayings such as “place your bets”, “insurance?”, “dealer has 18”, “want to play blackjack?” and more, to make the experience as real as you can playing against a screen.

A great option for people who want to try blackjack but are intimidated to play at a live table their first time, this is as close as it gets.

As of the time of this post, the video blackjack is tucked away just outside the restaurant. The casino isn’t that huge, so finding it won’t be a problem.

Horse Racing

Something this casino has that not all of them do is horse racing. All of the major horse racing tracks are syndicated. The area isn’t really all that big or conducive to fun to be honest. I enjoy horse racing quite a bit (even owning horses through a syndicate at one point), and while I’m not as active in the horse racing betting scene anymore, its nice that its available. That said, I wouldn’t want to hang out here, There’s about 15-20 seats, filled with the usual faire of people you’d expect, yelling at the screen and telling stories of how their horse was robbed of a win.

Food Options & Experience

The main food option is The Well Public House. It’s a common restaurant in some of the Chances casinos including Chilliwack.

I personally have eaten at The Well 3 times. Overall I would say the menu is pretty solid with usually offerings, and they do have a fairly cheap breakfast special available. I went there during breakfast twice and lunch once. The breakfast gets pretty busy with the $5 breakfast, but it’s fairly timely. Lunch was fairly quiet, service was fast and friendly.

Staff Friendliness & Helpfulness

Not much to say here, which is a good thing. Anytime I talked with anyone they were friendly and helpful. The front entrance security person, the cashier cage, the floor personnel and the restaurant staff all were friendly and helpful.

Comps Program

Chances Maple Ridge is part of the Encore Rewards program. It’s administered by the BC Lotto Commission, and basically is the rewards program all the BC Casinos use. The pro to this is your points carry from location to location, making it easier to rack up rewards if you do visit several casinos in BC (like the Canadian Casino Gambler team!)

It’s fairly easy to redeem any free play you have accumulated through playing on any of the slot machines, just enter your account pin on the touch screen and it will show you what you can convert to free play.

They also run several promotions through the year, such as free play on your birthday, free $10 when you initially sign up, entries into drawings, etc.

Cleanliness

I’ve visited this casino a few times and overall I’d say its about as clean as it gets. There’s several floor people relative to it’s size, and they are constantly resetting chairs people have gotten up front and keeping the place in tip top shape.

Location

The location isn’t bad, but not necessarily near a major freeway (really theres only 1 major freeway through the Vancouver area, Highway 1. It is located though on Highway 7 which runs on the north side of the river. It’s in a shopping area, so there’s plenty around the general area. Overall I’d say it’s safe and easy to find.
